Omar Abdullah Refutes BJP Claim on Kashmir Issue Resolution

Srinagar, Jan 2: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah challenged the BJP’s assertion that the “Kashmir issue” was resolved with the abrogation of Article 370 five years ago, emphasizing that a portion of the former state remains under Pakistani occupation.

“Let us assume for a moment that the Kashmir issue on this side has been resolved, but we must not forget the other part of Jammu and Kashmir across the Line of Control (LoC) — Pakistan-occupied Kashmir,” Abdullah stated.

In response to whether he believed the Kashmir issue was settled with the abrogation, as claimed by the BJP, Abdullah highlighted, “When the BJP says the Kashmir issue has been finally resolved, are we to assume that the situation across the border has also been addressed? In reality, it has not.”

He reiterated that the Kashmir issue persists, regardless of the border. “We can debate it, but the issue remains unresolved, and we want it to be resolved.”

Abdullah also referenced a Parliament resolution from February 22, 1994, which expressed “deep concern” over Pakistan’s role in training terrorists in camps located in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir. The resolution called on Pakistan to vacate the areas of Jammu and Kashmir that it occupies through aggression.
