Samba/Jammu, Jan 22: In a heartbreaking incident, over 100 sheep were killed early Wednesday when a fire engulfed a cowshed in Rakh Barotian, Vijaypur tehsil, Samba district, officials said.
The fire broke out around 3:30 a.m. in the cowshed owned by Shapian, son of Jamal Din. Despite the swift deployment of four fire tenders, the flames consumed the structure and caused extensive damage.
“More than 100 sheep were burnt to death in the fire, though a few could be rescued,” said Station House Officer Zaheer Mushtaq.
Tehsildar Sudesh Kumar extended his condolences to the family, assuring, “We will provide all possible assistance to help the family recover from this tragic loss.”
The incident has left the local community shaken, with officials vowing to investigate the cause of the fire and offer support to the bereaved family.
