SRINAGAR, Aug 12: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Tuesday said India has avenged Pakistan’s brutality through ‘Operation Mahadev’ and ‘Operation Sindoor’ and warned that the “terrorist country” will face a “very heavy price” if it dares to shed the blood of Indian citizens.
Speaking at the ‘Pedal for Ek Bharat, Shreshtha Bharat’ rally organised by the Border Security Force (BSF) in Srinagar ahead of the 79th Independence Day, Sinha felicitated 79 cyclists — 40 local youths and 39 BSF personnel — who participated in the event. Earlier in the day, he flagged off a ‘Tiranga Yatra’ from Dal Lake to the Botanical Garden.
Paying homage to the victims of the April 22 “Pakistan-sponsored” terror attack in Pahalgam that claimed 26 lives, mainly tourists, Sinha said, “Through Operation Mahadev and Operation Sindoor, we have exacted revenge for Pakistan’s brutality. If Pakistan sheds the blood of our citizens, it will have to pay a very heavy price.”
Three senior Lashkar-e-Taiba commanders involved in the Pahalgam attack were killed on the outskirts of Srinagar in a July 28 encounter under ‘Operation Mahadev’. In retaliation for the attack, India targeted terrorist infrastructure in Pakistan and Pakistan-occupied Kashmir during ‘Operation Sindoor’ in May.
Lauding the armed forces and J&K Police for their courage, the LG urged people to remain vigilant against divisive elements trying to disturb peace and harmony. He also congratulated the BSF for inspiring youth to join the forces and for paying a befitting tribute to martyrs.
Addressing the Tiranga Yatra, Sinha paid respects to Kargil war heroes and released a monograph in honour of the martyrs of J&K. He called upon citizens to prioritise nation-building, uphold unity, and preserve the ideals of the country’s founding fathers.
“The skies of Jammu and Kashmir are shining with the tricolour. From the banks of Jhelum to Chenab, and from Pir Panjal to Harmukh, the echo of ‘Bharat Mata Ki Jai’ is resounding. A new generation is rising with one resolve — to live and die for Ma Bharti,” he said.
