Jammu, Dec 21: In a rare and unusual incident, a balloon carrying Pakistani currency was recovered near the international border in Jammu’s Ramgarh sector, officials said on Sunday. The balloon was found lying in an open agricultural field in Village Swankha, and one Pakistani currency note was recovered from its vicinity during inspection.
Police have taken cognisance of the incident and launched an inquiry to determine the source and purpose of the balloon. While balloons crossing from across the border have been reported in the past, the recovery of Pakistani currency is considered uncommon, making this case particularly notable.
A senior police officer said, “Such incidents are not entirely unprecedented, but finding foreign currency with the balloon is rare. We are investigating whether this could be linked to propaganda, psychological operations, or other activities.”
Authorities are questioning locals and monitoring surrounding areas to trace the origin of the balloon and assess any potential threat. Security officials have also urged residents in border areas to immediately report any unusual items they come across.
The incident underscores the need for continued vigilance along the international border, with officials assuring that a thorough probe is underway to prevent any misuse of such cross-border items.
