Amritsar, Sept 7:
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will visit Gurdaspur in Punjab on September 9 to review the damage caused by recent floods and to oversee ongoing rescue and relief operations, the Punjab BJP announced on Sunday.
Direct Meeting with Affected Families
The Prime Minister is scheduled to meet with flood-affected families, including farmers, to express solidarity and assure them of the central government’s full support.
“PM Modi will meet directly with the flood-affected brothers, sisters, and farmers to share their sorrow and take every possible step to help the victims,” said the Punjab BJP in a statement on social media platform X.
Message of Solidarity from Centre
The Punjab BJP further stated that the PM’s visit reflects the Centre’s continued commitment to the people of Punjab during this crisis.
“This visit proves that the BJP-led central government stands firmly with the people of Punjab and will ensure full support during this difficult time,” they added.
BJP Chief: PM Closely Monitoring Situation
Punjab BJP President Sunil Jakhar said the Prime Minister has been closely monitoring the flood situation.
“He is visiting Punjab to personally assess local conditions and understand ground realities to ensure maximum assistance reaches those affected,” Jakhar posted on X.
Union Minister and Central Teams Already on Ground
Jakhar also mentioned that Union Agriculture Minister Shivraj Singh Chouhan had already visited the flood-hit areas on September 5. Two central teams assessing the damage are expected to submit their reports to the Government of India soon.
Flood Toll and Relief Operations
According to official data, 46 people have died in Punjab due to flood-related incidents so far. Nearly 2,000 villages and over four lakh people have been affected across the state.
NDRF, SDRF and Financial Support Mobilised
Punjab Finance Minister Harpal Singh Cheema said 24 NDRF and 2 SDRF teams are working on the ground, aided by 144 boats and a state government helicopter. The Revenue Department has also released ₹71 crore to aid relief and rehabilitation efforts.
