Jammu, Jan 2: Police and the National Security Guard (NSG) on Friday conducted a joint anti-fidayeen and anti-hostage mock drill at police stations in Kathua district, Jammu and Kashmir, officials said. The exercise was aimed at enhancing preparedness against terror-related contingencies.
The drill was held under the supervision of Kathua SSP Mohita Sharma at police stations in Hiranagar and Rajbagh, officials added.
Carried out jointly by the Special Operations Group (SOG) Kathua, police personnel, and NSG commandos, the exercise included demonstrations of tactics for neutralising terrorists during a fidayeen attack, safe rescue of hostages, and defusing improvised explosive devices (IEDs). Following the drill, NSG officers conducted a detailed debriefing of the participating police and SOG teams.
Officials said the exercise focused on improving operational preparedness, agility, and rapid response capabilities of police personnel to handle potential fidayeen attacks or hostage situations targeting police establishments.
Personnel were briefed on tactical use of dominating heights, deployment of heavy firepower, and the functioning of alarm systems installed at police stations. Officers were directed to remain in a constant state of alertness, fully equipped with arms and ammunition, to ensure swift engagement against any hostile threat.
