New Delhi, Dec 04: Russian President Vladimir Putin arrived in New Delhi Thursday evening on a two-day visit aimed at strengthening the nearly eight-decade India-Russia partnership, which has endured despite a challenging global geopolitical environment.
Prime Minister Narendra Modi will host a private dinner for Putin Thursday evening, setting the stage for the 23rd India-Russia summit scheduled for Friday.
The summit is expected to focus on boosting defence ties, insulating India-Russia trade from external pressures, and exploring cooperation in small modular reactors, officials said. The talks are likely to attract close attention from Western capitals, given the current downturn in India-US relations. Several agreements, including in trade and strategic sectors, are expected to be signed during the visit.
On Friday morning, Putin will receive a ceremonial welcome at Rashtrapati Bhavan before the summit. Prime Minister Modi will host a working lunch at Hyderabad House for the Russian leader and his delegation. Putin is also expected to visit Rajghat in the morning, sources said.
Following the summit, Putin will launch the new India channel of the Russian state-run broadcaster and attend a state banquet hosted in his honour by President Droupadi Murmu.
The Russian President is scheduled to depart India around 9 pm on Friday, concluding a 27-hour visit that underscores the enduring strategic and economic ties between the two nations.
