Srinagar, Sep 11: Union Minister for Railways Ashwini Vaishnaw on Thursday announced a major relief measure for Kashmir’s apple growers, unveiling a daily time-tabled parcel train from Budgam to Adarsh Nagar station in Delhi starting September 13, 2025.
“With the Jammu–Srinagar line operational, the valley now has better connectivity. Railways is introducing a daily time-tabled parcel train from Budgam to Delhi from 13th September,” Vaishnaw posted on X, calling it an effort to “empower Kashmir’s apple growers.”
The minister said loading of two parcel vans carrying apple consignments from Budgam to Delhi began today itself, marking the first step towards easing the crisis triggered by repeated disruptions on the Srinagar–Jammu highway.
The announcement comes as thousands of trucks carrying apple produce remain stranded on the highway due to landslides, leaving the valley’s horticulture sector under severe stress.
Apple growers and traders have welcomed the move, saying the dedicated railway service will help reduce losses and ensure timely transport of Kashmir’s prime produce to markets outside J&K.
