Jammu, January 14: In a significant review meeting held at BSNL Bhawan, Rail Head Complex, Bahu Plaza, Rajya Sabha Member of Parliament Er. Gulam Ali Khatana lauded the Union Government’s commitment to strengthening BSNL’s infrastructure with indigenous 4G telecom equipment. While expressing gratitude to Prime Minister Narendra Modi for spearheading this initiative, he emphasized the need for BSNL to step up its services and regain public trust.
Khatana highlighted the BJP-led government’s efforts to extend telecom connectivity to underserved rural and urban areas under the Digital India mission. Stressing the importance of saturating these regions with reliable BSNL services, he said, “BSNL must bring its services on par with private operators to meet customer expectations. A customer-friendly approach is essential to boost trust and revenue.”

The MP also expressed dissatisfaction with the call quality in parts of Jammu Province and the inadequate number of BSNL mobile towers compared to private operators. He urged BSNL officials to increase tower density, improve service availability, and enhance the visibility of their offerings to strengthen the brand.
Mumtaz Ahmed, Principal General Manager (Business Area), Jammu, presented a comprehensive report on BSNL’s ongoing initiatives. He detailed the rollout of 4G connectivity to previously uncovered villages under the Government of India’s 4G Saturation Project and the launch of high-speed FTTH (Fiber to the Home) and Air Fiber services. Ahmed assured that all block headquarters and Gram Panchayats in Jammu Province would be connected with fiber internet in Phase-3 of the project.
Khatana appreciated the progress made but urged the officials to intensify their efforts, stating, “Every effort must be made to restore BSNL’s reputation as a trusted telecom provider. The people deserve better, and we must deliver.”
The meeting concluded with optimism for noticeable improvements by the next financial year. Senior BSNL officials, including Nand Kishore, Rajesh Khanna, Rakesh Sharma, Rajesh Sharma, Pran Nath Raina, Vijay Kumar Sharma, and A.K. Maurya, assured their dedication to achieving these goals.
The review meeting reinforced BSNL’s pivotal role in bridging the digital divide, aligning with the vision of a digitally empowered India.
