KUPWARA, Jan 6: Security forces on Tuesday busted a terrorist hideout during a joint cordon and search operation (CASO) in the Putusai area of Sogam in north Kashmir’s Kupwara district, recovering a cache of arms and explosives.

The operation was jointly carried out by troops of 47 Rashtriya Rifles (RR), 31 Battalion BSF and 08 Sector RRfollowing specific intelligence inputs about the presence of a terrorist hideout in the area. The search operation began early in the morning and continued till late evening.

During the operation, security forces recovered 34 rounds of 7.62 mm ammunition, 18 rounds of 9 mm ammunition, one pistol magazine, one Pakistan-made grenade, four Chinese grenades and one ammunition pouch, officials said.
After the recovery, the area was thoroughly sanitized to rule out the presence of any more suspicious material. No arrests have been reported so far.
Security forces said the successful busting of the hideout has averted a potential threat and reiterated that operations against the terror ecosystem in the region will continue. More details are awaited.
