Six Killed, 15 Injured in Jerusalem Bus Shooting Attack

Jerusalem, Sep 8:
At least six people were killed and 15 others injured, including a pregnant woman, after gunmen opened fire inside a bus at a busy intersection in north Jerusalem on Monday morning.

Attack During Morning Rush Hour

According to Israeli paramedics, the shooting occurred at a major intersection at the northern entrance to Jerusalem. The road is a key route leading to Jewish settlements in East Jerusalem.

Eyewitnesses and video footage showed chaotic scenes as dozens of people fled from a nearby bus stop during peak commuting hours.

“The area was covered in broken glass. People were lying unconscious on the road             and sidewalks,” said one paramedic at the scene.

Two Attackers ‘Neutralised’ by Police

Israeli police confirmed that two attackers were “neutralised” shortly after the shooting began. However, authorities have not yet clarified whether the gunmen were killed or injured.

Israeli media reported that the attackers boarded the bus and began firing indiscriminately at passengers and bystanders.

Casualties and Ongoing Investigation

Out of the 15 injured:

  • Six are in serious condition

  • One of the victims is a pregnant woman

  • Emergency teams are continuing to provide aid and transport victims to hospitals

As of now, no militant group has claimed responsibility for the attack.

Rising Tensions Amid Gaza Conflict

The shooting comes amid a sharp rise in violence since the start of the war in Gaza. The region has seen:

  • Increased Palestinian militant attacks in Israel and the West Bank

  • A spike in settler violence against Palestinians

  • Ongoing military operations in Gaza and surrounding areas

Past Similar Attacks

This is the deadliest mass shooting in Israel since October 2024, when two Palestinian gunmen opened fire at a light rail station in Tel Aviv, killing seven. That attack was later claimed by Hamas’ military wing.

In that case, attackers had also targeted civilians in a light rail carriage, leading to widespread condemnation.

Security has been heightened in Jerusalem and surrounding regions as investigations into today’s attack continue.
