SRINAGAR, Aug 19: Police in Jammu and Kashmir’s Ganderbal district have arrested a teenage girl on charges of murdering her 14-year-old younger sister, whose body was recovered near their home in Shepora on Sunday morning.
The incident triggered outrage and protests in the area, following which police constituted a Special Investigation Team (SIT) and registered a case under Section 103 of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS). Forensic teams also collected evidence from the crime scene.
Officials said that the victim was last seen with her elder sister shortly before her death. During questioning, the elder sibling confessed to the crime, admitting that she struck her sister with a stick after an argument.
“While leaving home, the sisters got into a quarrel during which the elder one hit her sibling with a stick, leading to her death,” an investigating officer said.
