Traffic Advisory Issued Amid Bad Weather in Jammu

JAMMU, Feb 28: With continuous rain and snowfall causing slippery roads, landslides, and road blockages at multiple locations, the Traffic Police Rural have urged commuters to exercise caution while driving.

Advising the public to prioritize safety, officials have issued key guidelines for navigating hazardous road conditions. Drivers are urged to reduce speed, use heavy gear when driving on inclines or declines, and switch to low beams to minimize glare from rain and fog. Maintaining a safe distance from other vehicles is crucial, as sudden acceleration could lead to skidding or loss of control.

Authorities have also advised against driving through flooded, muddy, or hilly areas, particularly in snowbound regions. Motorists should ensure that their vehicle’s tires, brakes, and windshield wipers are in optimal condition. Extreme caution is advised on under-construction highways and other roads. Travelers are encouraged to carry emergency essentials, including a flashlight, first aid kit, and snacks, in case of unexpected delays or stranding.

People planning to travel are advised to confirm road conditions beforehand by contacting the following Traffic Control Units:

  • Traffic Police Control Room Jammu: 0191-2459048, 0191-2740550, 9419147732, 103

  • Traffic Helpline Samba-Kathua: 8899041447
