Trump Slaps 25% Tariff on Foreign Trucks, Effective November 1

Washington, Oct 5: In a move likely to trigger fresh trade tensions, U.S. President Donald J. Trump on Sunday announced a 25% tariff on all medium-duty and heavy-duty semi-trucks entering the United States, effective November 1, 2025.

The new tariff, framed by the administration as a step to “protect American manufacturing and jobs,” is expected to impact major truck exporters including Canada, Mexico, and European manufacturers.

“This is about standing up for our workers and ensuring that foreign companies don’t undercut American industry,” Trump said while unveiling the decision.

Industry analysts, however, warned that the tariffs could raise costs across the supply chain, particularly in logistics and freight, and risk retaliatory measures from U.S. trading partners.

The announcement is part of Trump’s broader protectionist economic agenda, which has seen the White House impose a series of tariffs across multiple sectors in recent months.
