Twin Encounters Erupt in Udhampur and Kishtwar; 5–6 Terrorists Believed Trapped in Forest Areas

JAMMU, Apr 9: Twin encounters broke out in Udhampur and Kishtwar districts of Jammu and Kashmir on Wednesday, with security forces establishing contact with at least five to six terrorists believed to be hiding in the dense forest belts of the two regions.

In Udhampur, the gunfight began in Jopher village under the jurisdiction of Ramnagar Police Station, after police and security forces launched a joint search operation based on intelligence inputs.
“Contact was established with terrorists in Jopher village. Two to three are believed to be trapped. Firing is ongoing,” the Udhampur Police confirmed on X.

Simultaneously, another operation was launched in the Chatroo area of Kishtwar, where a separate group of militants reportedly opened fire at the advancing security teams.
“An intense exchange of gunfire is underway,” official sources said, adding that additional reinforcements had been rushed to both areas.

These developments are part of a larger anti-terror operation that began on March 24 in the Sanyal area of Kathua district, following a spurt in militant activity. Since then, security forces have been actively tracking the movement of terror groups through the Jammu region, resulting in multiple encounters.

On March 27, four policemen and two terrorists were killed in a fierce encounter in Kathua, highlighting the increasing push by militant groups into the region.

A tight security cordon has been established in both Udhampur and Kishtwar, and drone surveillance along with para-commandos have been deployed in the forested stretches as the operation progresses.

More details are awaited as both encounters are ongoing.
