US to Deploy 200 Troops to Israel to Oversee Gaza Ceasefire Deal

Washington, Oct 10 : In a major diplomatic development, the United States is deploying around 200 troops to Israel to help oversee the newly brokered Gaza ceasefire agreement between Israel and Hamas, US media reported on Thursday.

A senior US official said the task force will “oversee, observe, and ensure there are no violations” of the ceasefire deal. The contingent will remain stationed in Israel and will not enter Gaza, the official clarified. “No US boots on the ground in Gaza,” he stressed.

The mission will focus on logistics, transportation, engineering, and planning support. The US team will also include embedded personnel from the Egyptian, Qatari, and Turkish armed forces — countries that played a pivotal role in mediating the truce.

The ceasefire, announced by former US President Donald Trump on his Truth Social platform, marks what he called the “first step toward strong, durable, and everlasting peace.” As part of the deal, both sides agreed to a hostage-prisoner exchange involving about 20 Israeli hostages believed to be alive, along with the return of remains of others.

The office of Israeli Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu confirmed that the Israeli government had approved the agreement, describing it as a “historic step after two years of relentless conflict.” The ceasefire is expected to take effect within the next 24 hours.

According to officials, US troops could begin deploying immediately, with their mission extending to facilitating humanitarian aid deliveries into Gaza and helping manage the deconfliction mechanism — ensuring both sides adhere to the agreed security terms.
