Amit Shah Hails Abrogation of Article 370 as Catalyst for Peace and Development in J&K

Ahmedabad, Jan 15: Union Home Minister Amit Shah on Wednesday underscored the transformative impact of the abrogation of Article 370 in Jammu and Kashmir, asserting that it has ushered in peace and prosperity in the region. Addressing a gathering in Kalol, Gandhinagar district, Shah claimed that the situation in the Valley has improved significantly, with Srinagar’s Lal Chowk witnessing peaceful Krishna Janmashtami processions, an event previously fraught with security concerns.

Shah, on a three-day visit to Gujarat from January 14, took a sharp dig at former Prime Minister Jawaharlal Nehru, attributing the imposition of Article 370 to his tenure. “Prime Minister Narendra Modi’s decision to abrogate Article 370 in 2019 sent a strong message to the world that for Indians, the nation’s self-respect and honour are paramount,” he declared.

Shah highlighted the surge in tourism, noting that nearly 2.80 crore visitors, including many from Gujarat, have explored Kashmir without facing any issues, attributing this transformation to PM Modi’s “hardworking, sensitive, and alert leadership.”

The home minister also praised Modi’s economic vision, stating, “India, under PM Modi’s leadership, has emerged as the fifth-largest economy in the world. By 2027, we are poised to reach the third spot, and by 2047, we aim to make India the number one country.”

During his address, Shah inaugurated 19 projects and laid foundation stones for eight others, including the ambitious six-lane highway connecting Sanand and Kalol, with a combined project value of ₹194 crore. Reflecting on governance, he criticized the Congress era, saying, “There was a time when village sarpanchs struggled for grants as small as ₹5,000. Today, under BJP rule, crores of rupees are allocated effortlessly for development.”

Shah also credited Modi with fulfilling long-standing promises, such as the construction of the Ram temple in Ayodhya. “No one believed the Ram temple would become a reality. But today, Ram Lalla resides in a grand temple. It is PM Modi who has eradicated Naxalism and terrorism from the country,” he said, adding that the BJP’s commitment to development and national pride has secured its dominance in Gujarat, including all seven assembly segments in the Gandhinagar Lok Sabha constituency.

Shah’s address in Kalol reinforced the BJP’s narrative of delivering on promises and driving transformative change, both in Jammu and Kashmir and across the nation.
