JAMMU, May 5: The recently launched Vande Bharat Express between Jammu and Srinagar has witnessed a massive surge in passenger occupancy within days of its inauguration, with travelers applauding its speed, comfort and world-class amenities.
Launched on May 2, the semi-high-speed train has quickly emerged as a preferred mode of travel, attracting both tourists and pilgrims. Railway officials reported a sharp rise in passenger volume, with occupancy touching 82 per cent on May 4, when around 4,680 passengers travelled across two pairs of services.
The occupancy further jumped to 96 per cent on May 5, with approximately 2,744 passengers availing the service, despite only one pair of trains (Nos. 26404 and 26403) operating on Tuesdays.
Overall, during the first four days of operation from May 2 to May 5, the train carried nearly 16,349 passengers, maintaining an average occupancy of around 82 per cent—an indication of its growing popularity among commuters.
Passengers have widely appreciated the train’s modern facilities, highlighting its smooth and jerk-free ride even on winding tracks. Many also praised the quality of food served onboard, along with the consistent monitoring by railway officials to ensure high service standards.
Uchit Singhal, Senior Divisional Commercial Manager, said the response reflects the success of modernisation efforts in Indian Railways. “The surge in occupancy from 82 per cent to 96 per cent in just two days is a matter of pride. Passengers are satisfied and increasingly choosing this train as a reliable travel option,” he said.
He added that feedback from passengers is being continuously reviewed to further enhance travel experience. With the tourism season picking up, officials expect the train to soon achieve full occupancy.
The Jammu–Srinagar Vande Bharat service is being seen as a major step towards transforming connectivity in Jammu and Kashmir, offering faster, safer and more comfortable travel in the region.
