PM Modi hails Armed Forces for ‘Operation Sindoor’, unveils Armed Forces Vision 2047

KOLKATA, SEPTEMBER 15: Prime Minister Narendra Modi on Monday lauded the Armed Forces for the success of ‘Operation Sindoor’ and urged the Defence Ministry to take steps toward greater self-reliance and innovation to meet future challenges, officials said.

Modi inaugurated the 16th Combined Commanders’ Conference (CCC) at the Eastern Command headquarters in Vijay Durg, Fort William, reviewing reforms implemented over the last two years and outlining plans for the next two. He also unveiled the Indian Armed Forces Vision 2047 document.

Officials said Modi was briefed on the operational readiness of the forces in the context of the “new normal” created by Operation Sindoor, which was launched in May following the Pahalgam terror attack that claimed 26 lives. The operation aimed to dismantle terror infrastructure across the Line of Control and inside Pakistan, showcasing a calibrated, tri-services response emphasizing precision and professionalism.

The Prime Minister praised the Armed Forces for their role in nation-building, anti-piracy operations, safe repatriation of Indian citizens from conflict zones, and humanitarian assistance and disaster relief to friendly nations. He directed the Defence Ministry to implement reforms swiftly to enhance jointness, self-reliance (atmanirbharta), and innovation to meet emerging threats.

The three-day CCC, held once every two years, is the apex forum for top civilian and military leadership to review reforms, transformation, and operational preparedness. Deliberations will cover force modernization, jointness, integration, and enhancing operational readiness for multi-domain warfare.

The conference is being attended by Defence Minister Rajnath Singh, National Security Advisor Ajit Doval, Chief of Defence Staff General Anil Chauhan, Defence Secretary Rajesh Kumar Singh, and other senior officials. Modi left Kolkata in the afternoon for Purnea, Bihar, following his two-day visit.
