Poonch, July 18: The Narcotics Control Bureau (NCB) on Saturday achieved a major success in its ongoing crackdown against drug smuggling by recovering five packets of suspected narcotics and arresting a man near the border fence in Jammu and Kashmir’s Poonch district.
According to officials, the recovery was made during a search operation conducted in Kosalyain village of Haveli tehsil, a border area in Poonch. Acting on specific inputs, NCB teams intensified searches in the area and intercepted a suspect during the operation.
The individual, identified as Maneer Hussain, son of Sain and a resident of the locality, was taken into custody after officials recovered five packets of suspected narcotic substances from his possession.
Following the seizure, the NCB registered a case and launched a detailed investigation. Officials said the accused is being questioned to establish the origin of the contraband and identify the network involved in its transportation and distribution.
The latest seizure comes amid heightened efforts by security and anti-narcotics agencies to dismantle drug trafficking networks operating in border districts of Jammu and Kashmir. Authorities said further investigations are underway and more arrests cannot be ruled out.
