JAMMU, May 5: High alert sounded in Jammu and Kashmir ahead of the anniversary of Operation Sindoor, with security agencies intensifying vigilance across sensitive locations. As part of the heightened security measures, Jammu and Kashmir Police on Tuesday carried out a major anti-sabotage drill at the Jammu bus stand.
Teams of the Special Operations Group (SOG), along with other security agencies, conducted extensive searches across the bus stand premises—one of the busiest transit hubs in the region. Buses, shops and surrounding areas were thoroughly checked, while passengers inside buses and within the premises were frisked. Luggage and parked vehicles were also inspected to rule out any suspicious activity.
Officials said the exercise was aimed at strengthening the security grid and ensuring preparedness against any potential sabotage attempts. “Such drills are conducted to identify vulnerabilities and ensure a swift and coordinated response in case of any threat,” an officer said.
Sources indicated that intelligence inputs have flagged apprehensions that Pakistan-based elements and their proxy terror outfits may attempt to disturb peace in Jammu and Kashmir around the anniversary, prompting enhanced surveillance and preventive measures.
Notably, Operation Sindoor was launched last year in 2025 following the Pahalgam terror attack, during which the Indian Armed Forces, including the Indian Army and the Indian Air Force, carried out targeted operations against terror launchpads and headquarters across the border. The operation reportedly resulted in significant casualties among terrorists affiliated with groups such as Jaish-e-Mohammad and Lashkar-e-Taiba.
In view of the anniversary of the operation, security forces have stepped up checks, increased patrolling and activated multi-agency coordination to maintain law and order.
Police have urged the public to remain vigilant and cooperate with security personnel, assuring that all necessary measures are being taken to ensure safety and prevent any untoward incident.
