Rajouri/Jammu, Jun 16: Security forces launched a search operation after a suspected Pakistani drone was sighted over a forward village near the International Border in Rajouri district of Jammu and Kashmir, officials said on Tuesday.
According to officials, the drone-like object, carrying a blinking light, was observed late Monday night entering the Indian side from across the border in the Sunderbani sector.
The suspected unmanned aerial vehicle was seen hovering for a brief period in the area between Mahadev Gap and Kalal village before returning towards the Pakistan-occupied Kashmir side, officials said.
Following the sighting, security agencies intensified surveillance and conducted a thorough search operation in the area on Tuesday morning to ascertain whether any payload, including narcotics, arms or ammunition, had been dropped.
However, officials said no suspicious material or objectionable items were recovered during the operation.
Security forces remain on alert in the border belt, where drone sightings have emerged as a growing security concern due to their potential use for smuggling weapons, explosives and narcotics across the border.
Officials said vigilance has been enhanced in the area and investigations are underway to determine the nature and origin of the flying object.
