SRINAGAR, Jun 14: Director General of Police (DGP) J&K, Nalin Prabhat, on Sunday chaired a high-level security review meeting at the Police Control Room (PCR) Kashmir to assess and strengthen security arrangements for the smooth, safe and peaceful conduct of the Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra (SANJY)-2026.
Reviewing the overall security preparedness, the DGP directed officers to maintain a high state of readiness and ensure close coordination among all security agencies. He instructed officers to remain vigilant across sensitive and vulnerable locations and emphasized the need for enhanced surveillance, regular area domination exercises, intensified Cordon and Search Operations (CASOs), and continuous patrolling along Yatra routes, railway tracks, vulnerable areas and major tourist destinations.
Nalin Prabhat also directed that daily anti-sabotage checks be carried out along the pilgrimage routes and that all major roads connected with the Yatra remain under round-the-clock security cover. To strengthen emergency response mechanisms, he ordered the deployment of Quick Response Teams (QRTs) at strategic locations to provide immediate assistance whenever required.
The DGP stressed the importance of creating awareness among pilgrims and the general public regarding Yatra cut-off timings through extensive publicity campaigns. He also directed regular inspections of security arrangements and facilities established for the convenience of Yatra pilgrims.
Highlighting the role of technology in security management, Prabhat called for optimum utilization of modern surveillance systems, including CCTV networks, at transit camps, base camps and along the pilgrimage routes. He further instructed officers to effectively use RFID-based tracking and monitoring systems to enhance security and improve emergency response capabilities for pilgrims and authorized Yatra vehicles.
Expressing concern over potential security threats, the DGP directed officers to maintain close watch on terrorist associates and anti-national elements while ensuring adequate deployment in hinterland and vulnerable areas. He stressed the need to safeguard all sensitive installations and locations associated with the annual pilgrimage.
The DGP also instructed District Senior Superintendents of Police (SSPs) to maintain close coordination with the civil administration for effective implementation of security and logistical arrangements. He emphasized efficient deployment of personnel along the National Highway and other critical locations to ensure the safe movement of pilgrims and tourists.
Prabhat further underscored the importance of regular coordination meetings and comprehensive contingency planning to tackle emergencies arising from natural disasters, fire incidents, adverse weather conditions and other unforeseen situations.
On the sidelines of the meeting, the DGP also reviewed security preparations for the upcoming Muharram observances and the annual Mela Kheer Bhawani. He directed officers to ensure robust security arrangements, effective crowd management and close coordination with all concerned agencies to facilitate the peaceful conduct of these important events.
The meeting concluded with the DGP directing all officers to remain fully prepared and committed towards ensuring a smooth, secure and peaceful Shri Amarnath Ji Yatra-2026.
The meeting was attended by Special DGP Coordination J&K S.J.M. Gillani, ADGP Armed J&K, ADGP CID, Inspector Generals of Police of Kashmir, Jammu, Railways, Traffic and CID, along with senior officers from all ranges, districts and specialized units across Jammu and Kashmir.
