APAAR ID Not Mandatory for NEET UG 2025

Despite earlier recommendations for candidates to update their Aadhaar credentials and integrate their APAAR ID, the National Testing Agency (NTA) has clarified that the APAAR ID is not mandatory for NEET UG 2025 registration.

The NTA stated: “It is clarified that APAAR ID is not mandatory for NEET UG 2025 registrations. Aspirants can continue to register for the exam using other available means, details of which will be available in the information bulletin soon.”

Changes in NEET UG 2025 Exam Pattern

NEET UG 2025 will witness significant changes in its examination format. The duration has been reduced from 200 to 180 minutes, and the total number of questions has decreased from 200 to 180. Additionally, all questions are now mandatory, with the previous optional section eliminated. The exam will continue to be conducted in a single day and shift, using the traditional pen-and-paper mode.

The subject-wise question distribution is as follows:

  • Biology: 90 questions
  • Chemistry: 45 questions
  • Physics: 45 questions

NEET-UG to Remain in Pen-and-Paper Mode

The NTA has confirmed that NEET-UG will continue to be conducted in pen-and-paper mode (OMR-based) for now.

A notification stated: “As decided by the National Medical Commission (NMC), the NEET-UG shall be conducted in pen-and-paper mode (OMR-based) in a single day and shift.”

Military Nursing Service (MNS) Admission via NEET UG

The NTA has also confirmed that aspirants seeking admission to the B.Sc. Nursing Courses at Armed Forces Medical Service Hospitals must qualify for NEET UG 2025. The NEET UG score will be used for shortlisting candidates for the four-year program.

Calls for Exam Reform Amid Controversies

NEET UG 2024 saw over 24 lakh students appearing for the exam, which was conducted at 4,750 centres across 571 cities on May 5, 2024. Following allegations of a paper leak last year, there has been growing demand for a transition to a computer-based test (CBT) mode.

A high-level panel, led by former ISRO Chief R. Radhakrishnan, has proposed multi-session and multi-stage testing, the establishment of secure and accessible testing centres, deployment of mobile testing units in remote areas, and a robust grievance redressal mechanism.

While NEET UG faced scrutiny over alleged irregularities, UGC-NET was also cancelled last year due to concerns about compromised exam integrity. Both matters are currently under investigation by the CBI.

Candidates are advised to stay updated with official announcements on the NTA website.
