Jammu, Feb 16: The bodies of two men were recovered from the banks of a stream in a remote village of Kathua district, Jammu and Kashmir, on Sunday, with police suspecting strangulation as the cause of death.
The victims, identified as Roshan Lal (45) and Shamsher (37), were found in Batheri village, Billawar, according to Station House Officer Jitender Singh. He stated that initial findings indicate the duo was strangled by unknown assailants.
“The exact cause of death will be confirmed after the postmortem,” the officer said, adding that a murder case has been registered and investigations are underway.
Meanwhile, official sources hinted that a terror angle cannot be ruled out at this stage. The incident comes against the backdrop of a surge in militant activities in Kathua, with last year’s attack on an Army patrol in Billawar claiming the lives of five soldiers.
