Srinagar, Mar 2: The Meteorological Centre Srinagar has forecast isolated to widespread rain and snow over Jammu and Kashmir in the next 48 hours, with moderate to heavy snowfall expected in higher reaches of North and Central Kashmir on March 3.
The MeT office stated that while the weather will remain generally cloudy on Sunday, light to moderate precipitation is likely at most places. The region is expected to see dry conditions from March 4 to 9, followed by another spell of rain and snow from March 10 to 12.
Authorities have advised tourists, travelers, and transporters to follow administrative and traffic advisories during this period. Farmers have also been urged to suspend irrigation and other agricultural activities until March 4.
With the rising possibility of landslides, rockfalls, and shooting stones in vulnerable areas, the MeT department has cautioned residents to avoid avalanche-prone zones and adhere to safety bulletins issued by the Disaster Management authorities.
Meanwhile, temperatures saw a slight rise across Jammu and Kashmir over the past 24 hours. Srinagar recorded 12.0°C, while Kukernag, at 10.2°C, reported the highest temperature in the Valley. The minimum temperature in Srinagar stood at 2.3°C, slightly below normal, while Gulmarg recorded a freezing -7.5°C, 4.3°C below the seasonal average.
