SRINAGAR, July 18: Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister Omar Abdullah on Thursday continued his public outreach initiative by interacting with citizens and delegations at the Srinagar Raabita office, a day after holding a similar session at his Jammu Raabita office.
As part of his weekly grievance redressal programme, the Chief Minister met with several deputations and individuals, who raised a wide range of issues, demands, and developmental concerns.
Among the visitors was Padma Shri awardee Prof. Iqbal S. Hasnain, Member of the Board of Trustees at the National University of Science and Technology, Muscat, Oman. Prof. Hasnain presented his book “Fault Lines in the Faith” to the Chief Minister. A renowned academic, Prof. Hasnain is also a member of the Executive Committee of Hamdard University, the Indian Mountaineering Foundation, and formerly served as Pro-Chancellor of Jamia Hamdard.
Javid Ahmad Tenga, President of the Kashmir Chamber of Commerce and Industry (KCCI), held a detailed discussion with the Chief Minister on matters affecting the business community. He highlighted pressing challenges faced by traders and entrepreneurs in the region and sought policy interventions for growth and stability.
A delegation of international martial arts players also called on the Chief Minister to discuss the hurdles faced by athletes from Jammu and Kashmir in gaining national and global recognition. They appealed for continued government support in developing sports infrastructure and creating opportunities for international exposure.
The President and Secretary of the Kashmir Labour Union Federation raised concerns regarding the functioning of the Jammu and Kashmir Building and Other Construction Workers Welfare Board (JKBOCWWB). They urged the Chief Minister to expedite the appointment of a full-time Chairman and ensure timely disbursal of welfare funds for thousands of construction workers across the Union Territory.
In addition to these, deputations from Beerwah, Inderwal, Baramulla, and other regions submitted memoranda on constituency-specific issues, including road infrastructure, healthcare, and education.
Representatives of minority communities also met the Chief Minister, flagging long-pending demands related to socio-economic welfare and community development.
Chief Minister Omar Abdullah gave a patient hearing to all delegations and individuals, assuring them of timely action on their legitimate concerns. He reiterated his government’s commitment to inclusive governance and emphasized the importance of continuous engagement with citizens to ensure responsive and equitable development.
