Targeted Killing Attempt Foiled in Jammu; Drone-Dropped Weapons Recovered, Srinagar Man Arrested

Jammu, July 30: In a major counter-terror breakthrough, Jammu Police foiled a targeted killing plot with the arrest of a Srinagar-based individual and the recovery of weapons suspected to have been dropped via drone in the Nagrota area on the outskirts of Jammu city.

Acting on specific intelligence, a police team from PS Nagrota laid a special naka at TCP Bypass Nagrota around 9:20 PM on July 29. During checking, a white Toyota Etios bearing Haryana registration number HR38Z-2066 was intercepted while travelling from Jammu towards Srinagar.

The driver, identified as Azan Hameed Gazi, son of Abdul Hamid Gazi, a resident of Hilalabad, Qamarwari (Srinagar), was apprehended. Upon searching the vehicle, police recovered:

  • 3 pistols (of Chinese and Turkish make)
  • 3 empty magazines
  • 8 live cartridges
  • 2 empty cartridges

Initial investigations suggest that the seized weapons were dropped via drone and were intended for targeted killings in the Kashmir Valley—indicating a disturbing new pattern of cross-border terror tactics using local operatives.

A case under FIR No. 170/2025 U/S 3/25 Arms Act has been registered at Police Station Nagrota. Senior police officials have not ruled out the involvement of a larger terror module and said further investigations are ongoing to uncover the entire network.

The swift action by Jammu Police not only prevented a potential bloodshed but also exposed the continued threat of drone-based weapon drops and radical sleeper cells operating within the region.
