Aizawl, Mizoram, July 30, 2025 — In a remarkable show of community spirit and cooperative values, Amit Sharma, Secretary to Government, Cooperation & ICT Departments, Government of Mizoram, led a special blood donation drive in Aizawl today, alongside Cooperation Minister P.C. Vanlalruata. The event is part of the ongoing International Year of Cooperation (IYC) 2025 celebrations taking place globally.
Addressing the gathering, Secretary Amit Sharma commended the Registrar Cooperative Societies (RCS) Office for organising the noble initiative on short notice. He encouraged similar drives across all districts of Mizoram, calling for active involvement from members of Primary Agriculture Cooperative Societies to help save lives through voluntary blood donation.
Drawing from his own past, Sharma reflected on his college days in Jammu and Kashmir where he frequently organised and participated in blood donation drives. “There is no greater feeling than donating blood to save another’s life,” he shared, striking a personal and emotional chord with the audience.
Cooperation Minister P.C. Vanlalruata, the chief guest at the event, lauded the Mizo community’s deep-rooted culture of compassion and service. “Today’s blood donation camp stands as a testimony to the Mizo spirit of helping others. This initiative will surely inspire other states to follow suit during the IYC,” the Minister said.
Both the Minister and Secretary visited the donation area, interacted with donors, and praised them for volunteering for such a vital humanitarian cause.
RCS Mizoram John L.T. Sanga expressed heartfelt gratitude to the dignitaries and shared that under their visionary leadership, many more community-centric events will be organised. Past initiatives under IYC 2025 in the state have included sapling plantation drives, walkathons, and essay competitions.
Doctors present at the camp briefed attendees on the safety of blood donation, noting that the body naturally recovers within 24 hours and that one donation can potentially save multiple lives.
Held at the RCS Headquarters complex in Zarkawt, Aizawl, the camp saw participation from an enthusiastic crowd—particularly among youth—with around 100 individuals registering as donors. A dedicated medical team from Civil Hospital facilitated the process, ensuring safe and efficient collection.
The drive not only underscored the importance of blood donation but also spotlighted how cooperative movements can be powerful vehicles for social good.
