SAMBA, Aug 12: In the wake of recent infiltration bids and narco smuggling attempts from across the border, the District Magistrate Samba has ordered the imposition of a night curfew in areas falling within two kilometres of the International Border. The restrictions will be in place daily from 10:00 PM to 5:00 AM for the next two months, unless withdrawn earlier.
According to the order issued by District Magistrate Ayushi Sudan, the decision has been taken in coordination with security agencies to strengthen border monitoring, support BSF operations, and prevent unlawful activities by regulating civilian movement during night hours.
The move comes just days after Border Security Force (BSF) personnel shot dead an intruder in the Hiranagar sector while he was attempting to cross over from the Pakistan side. Officials said the incident underscored the persistent security challenges along the sensitive border belt.
During curfew hours, movement will be permitted only for valid reasons, and individuals must carry and present identification when asked by BSF or police personnel. Authorities have warned that violators will face legal action.
The administration has urged residents to cooperate with security forces to maintain peace and foil any attempts to disturb the region’s stability.
