Hand grenade recovered after arrest of Babbar Khalsa operatives: Punjab Police

CHANDIGARH, Aug 19: Punjab Police on Tuesday said that a hand grenade has been recovered following the recent arrest of operatives linked to banned terror outfit Babbar Khalsa International (BKI).

Director General of Police (DGP) Gaurav Yadav said that the recovery was made by the Counter Intelligence unit in Jalandhar. “Acting swiftly on forward and backward linkages, Counter Intelligence Jalandhar recovered one 86P Hand Grenade following the arrest of two BKI operatives Ritik Naroliya and a juvenile from Rajasthan, a few days back,” Yadav posted on X.

The disclosures of the arrested duo led to the arrest of their aides—Vishavjit from Kolkata while attempting to flee to Malaysia, and Jackson from Nakodar. Their interrogation resulted in the recovery of the grenade.

“All the accused were acting on the directions of Canada-based BKI masterminds Zeeshan Akhtar and Ajay Gill,” the DGP said.

He further revealed that Vishavjit and Jackson had retrieved two hand grenades from Beas through their associates in the last week of July. One of these was used in an explosion at a liquor shop in SBS Nagar around 10 days ago by other members of the module.

An FIR has been registered at the State Special Operation Cell police station in Amritsar. The DGP asserted that Punjab Police remains committed to dismantling terror networks, curbing organised crime, and maintaining peace and public safety across the state.
