Mumbai, Sept 6: Mumbai Police have arrested a 50-year-old man from Noida for allegedly sending a fake terror threat claiming that 14 terrorists had entered Mumbai with 400 kg of RDX to carry out bomb blasts, officials said on Saturday.
Threat Sent Via WhatsApp Helpline
The crime branch arrested the accused, Ashwinikumar Supra, from his home in Sector 79, Noida, within 24 hours of receiving the message.
The threat was sent on Thursday to the traffic police’s WhatsApp helpline. It claimed that 14 terrorists had entered the city with human bombs and had planted RDX in 34 vehicles.
City on Alert Amid Ganesh Festival
The threat came while police were preparing for Anant Chaturdashi, the final day of the Ganesh festival. Security across the city was immediately tightened.
A case was registered at Worli Police Station, and the Mumbai Crime Branch took over the investigation.
Police Trace Threat to Noida
Investigators traced the sender’s mobile number to Gautam Buddha Nagar in Uttar Pradesh. A team then travelled to Noida and apprehended the suspect.
The accused is being brought to Mumbai and will be produced in court later today.
Motive Still Unknown
Police said the motive behind the hoax is still under investigation. Authorities have urged citizens to avoid spreading panic with false information.
