Jammu, Sept 6: Jammu and Kashmir Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Saturday announced a fresh investigation into the Chittisinghpora massacre of March 20, 2000, in which 35 Sikhs were brutally killed by Pakistan-sponsored terrorists in Anantnag district.
Families Demand Justice After 25 Years
The announcement followed a meeting between LG Sinha and a delegation from the 35 Shaheed Singhs Welfare Organization, Chittisinghpora. The group once again called for a thorough investigation into the massacre, demanding justice that has eluded them for nearly 25 years.
LG Assures Accountability and Closure
Responding to their plea, Lieutenant Governor Sinha said the government is fully committed to justice.
“A fresh and thorough inquiry will be conducted. The truth will be brought out, and justice will be served,” he said.
His assurance has rekindled hope among the families of the victims, many of whom have spent decades seeking answers.
Massacre Cast a Shadow During Clinton’s Visit
The massacre took place on the eve of US President Bill Clinton’s visit to India, and drew national outrage. The brutal killing of 35 innocent Sikh men in a village mosque highlighted Pakistan’s direct role in sponsoring terrorism in Kashmir.
The incident remains one of the darkest chapters in Jammu and Kashmir’s history.
