JMC Commissioner Issues Health Advisory Amid Flood Aftermath in Jammu

JAMMU, Sept 6: Commissioner, Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC), Dr. Devansh Yadav, on Friday appealed to residents to remain alert against possible outbreaks of waterborne and vector-borne diseases in flood-hit areas of Jammu.

He warned that contamination of drinking water could trigger illnesses such as stomach infections, fever and diarrhea, while stagnant water may fuel the spread of dengue and chikungunya.

Dr. Yadav urged people to boil water for at least 10 minutes before consumption and use chlorine tablets wherever available. “After adding chlorine, water should be allowed to settle for at least 30 minutes before drinking,” he said, advising citizens to clear rooftops, courtyards and drains of stagnant water to check mosquito breeding.

To strengthen public health support, the Health Department has activated helpline number 104 for guidance, while JMC teams have intensified fogging and spraying drives across all wards.

“If fogging has not yet reached your locality, immediately register your ward number on the JMC helpline so that the area can be covered on priority,” Dr. Yadav said.

Reiterating that public cooperation was crucial, he added: “The health and well-being of our citizens is our top priority. With timely action and active participation, we can prevent the spread of diseases and ensure a safe environment for all.”
