INDIAN ARMY RESTORES VITAL ROAD CONNECTIVITY IN RAMBAN WITH LAUNCH OF 150-FOOT REINFORCED MAITRA BRIDGE

Ramban, Sept 17: In a swift and coordinated effort, the Indian Army has restored road connectivity in Ramban district by launching a 150-foot reinforced Maitra Bridge on the Karol–Maitra Road, which had been washed away during recent heavy rains.

The road, considered a lifeline for local communities and government establishments, was left cut off after incessant rainfall triggered extensive damage, leaving thousands stranded. Acting on the request of the District Administration, the Army’s White Knight Engineers Corps was deployed to the site, located 20 meters above the Chenab River amid unstable cliffs.

The engineers constructed a triple-panel, double-storey reinforced Bailey Bridge capable of handling heavy traffic. The operation received critical support from the Border Roads Organisation (BRO), National Highways Authority of India (NHAI), District Administration and Police Department of Ramban, ensuring speedy execution.

The bridge launch forms part of the Army’s #HumAapkeSaathHain initiative, under which the forces have been extending humanitarian and disaster relief across the region. Since the onset of torrential rains, landslides, and flash floods, the Army has provided relief to over 5,000 individuals, along with conducting medical camps in remote villages to deliver essential healthcare.

Officials said the restoration of Maitra Bridge has also ensured the uninterrupted supply of food, medicines, and veterinary assistance to isolated communities.

The new structure now stands as a symbol of resilience and trust. The timely intervention, officials noted, reflects the Army’s unwavering commitment to safeguard the lives and livelihoods of people during crises.
