Jammu, Oct 6: A one-day workshop on cyber crimes and cybersecurity was today organised at the Conference Hall, District Police Lines (DPL) Jammu, drawing large participation from police officers of the Jammu-Samba-Kathua Range as well as members of the media fraternity.
Around 200 officers, including probationary DySPs and SIs, actively took part in the interactive session, raising questions and sharing their concerns about the fast-changing digital landscape.

The workshop was inaugurated by DIG JKS Range, Shiv Kumar Sharma (IPS) in the presence of SSP Jammu, Joginder Singh (JKPS) and other senior officers. The key guest speaker was Mohd. Yaseen Kichloo (IPS), Senior Superintendent of Police at the Cyber Crime Investigation Centre for Excellence (CICE), J&K, who delivered an in-depth presentation on the emerging nature of cyber threats.
Speaking at the event, SSP Kichloo underlined that cybercrime is evolving rapidly and called for continuous learning and vigilance. He shared insights from recent cases handled by the Cyber Crime Unit and detailed a wide range of threats, including phishing, vishing, hacking, salami attacks, steganography, skimming, email bombing, and online pornography. He also laid out practical preventive measures for officers to adopt in their day-to-day digital practices.
The session also focused on issues like online fraud, social media safety, phishing scams, and secure digital habits, with participants engaging in detailed discussions about prevention strategies and the importance of timely reporting of cyber incidents.
DIG Shiv Kumar stressed the role of community awareness in fighting cybercrime, stating, “Awareness is our first line of defense. By educating citizens, we empower them to protect themselves and report suspicious activity.”

SSP Jammu Joginder Singh reiterated the police department’s commitment to public safety and encouraged closer collaboration between law enforcement and the community to build a safer digital environment.
The programme concluded with an interactive Q&A session, distribution of educational material on cyber hygiene, and a vote of thanks by SP Headquarters Jammu, Irshad Hussain Rather (JKPS), who coordinated the workshop. He expressed gratitude to the dignitaries and lauded the initiative as an important step in equipping police personnel to deal with digital-age crimes
