BJP Rules Out Alliance with National Conference, Accuses Omar Abdullah of Misleading Claims

SRINAGAR, Oct 8: The Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) on Wednesday firmly rejected claims by Chief Minister Omar Abdullah that the National Conference (NC) had the option to ally with the BJP following last year’s Assembly elections, asserting that the party never intended to join the NC-led government.

Addressing a press conference in Srinagar, BJP MLA and Leader of Opposition (LoP) Sunil Sharma said the party was content sitting in the opposition and reiterated that the doors of the BJP are closed to the National Conference.

Sharma questioned Abdullah’s statement that he had two options — to form the government alone or ally with the BJP. “I do not know what dream he had where the BJP offered to form the government together. If any BJP leader offered him support, he should bring it forward or apologise for misleading the public,” Sharma said.

He alleged that it was Abdullah who repeatedly approached BJP leaders seeking support and called his claims “political hypocrisy.” Sharma also accused the NC leadership of being “habitual liars” who project friendship in Delhi but try to foment anti-Centre sentiment in Kashmir.

Referring to Abdullah’s interactions with Union ministers, Sharma said, “He greets them with shawls and bouquets, shares tea with them, and yet publicly claims he won’t allow BJP in J&K politics.” He added that Abdullah was attempting to create political noise ahead of the Budgam bypolls.

On the restoration of J&K’s statehood, Sharma said the BJP only supports a peaceful and stable form of statehood, not one that revives violence or hartals. “People do not want statehood that disrupts normal life or endangers civilians,” he stated.

Sharma also dismissed claims of powerlessness by the Chief Minister, saying that the Lieutenant Governor has approved 97 files sent by the CM, and urged Abdullah to focus on governance instead of misleading the people.

He further thanked the Centre for releasing the 21st instalment of the Pradhan Mantri Kisan Samman Nidhi (PM-KISAN) scheme in advance, under which ₹171 crore was directly transferred to the accounts of 8.55 lakh farmers across Jammu and Kashmir.
