Kathua, Oct 26: In a significant crackdown against drug trafficking, J&K Police Kathua arrested three drug peddlers and recovered approximately 12.63 grams of heroin-like narcotics near the Bye Pass Road, Lakhanpur, police said on Sunday.
The operation was conducted under the supervision of SSP Kathua, Ms. Mohita Sharma, IPS. On October 25, a police team led by SHO PS Lakhanpur, Insp. Tariq Ahmed, and guided by Addl. SP Kathua Sh. Rahul Charak, JKPS, and DySP DAR Kathua Sh. Ritesh Sambyal, intercepted three suspects near the Cremation Ground area during routine patrolling.
The accused were identified as Shiv Kumar Anand (Ward No. 07, Lakhanpur), Gourav Singh (Tarda Jagatpur, Kathua), and Hitesh Kumar (Tharyal, Pathankot). During the search, Shiv Anand was found carrying 4.61 grams of heroin-like substance, Gourav Singh with 3.25 grams, and Hitesh Kumar with 4.77 grams.
A total of approximately 12.63 grams of heroin-like substance was seized, and all three were arrested. FIR No. 129/2025 under sections 8/21/22/29 of the NDPS Act has been registered at PS Lakhanpur, and further investigation is underway.
J&K Police Kathua urged the public to share information on any illicit drug activities in the area, assuring that identities of informants will be kept confidential.
This operation underscores the police’s continued commitment to curbing drug trafficking and safeguarding the community from narcotics abuse.
