SRINAGAR, Nov 12: Lieutenant Governor Manoj Sinha on Wednesday called upon the people to join hands with the administration and security agencies in eliminating every remaining terror element from society to ensure lasting peace in Jammu and Kashmir.
“We must eliminate every single terror element within society to completely restore peace, and this effort requires the cooperation of all sections of the public,” the Lieutenant Governor said while inaugurating the International Film Festival of Srinagar (TIFFS), organised by the Vomedh Group.
The Lieutenant Governor urged filmmakers to produce films that narrate the ordeal of terror victims, expose the ringleaders of the terror ecosystem, and showcase the transformation of Jammu and Kashmir after August 2019. “People must expose the enemies of peace by providing information to the police and security agencies so that the entire terror network hiding behind social cover is neutralised, and a befitting reply is given to the evil designs of the neighbouring country,” Sinha said.
Highlighting the tireless efforts of the J&K Police, Army, Intelligence, and Security Forces over the last several years, the LG said that their sacrifices have helped establish a fear-free, secure, and inclusive environment for the youth to pursue their aspirations. “Society must come together to guard this peace, progress, joy, and renewed hope,” he added.
Sinha also underlined the administration’s initiatives to facilitate film shooting and revive Jammu and Kashmir’s historic bond with the Indian film industry. Calling cinema a powerful tool for shaping narratives, he said, “Filmmakers must strike a balance between entertainment and social responsibility. Cinema can promote cultural unity and the spirit of Ek Bharat Shreshtha Bharat.”
The 4th edition of TIFFS has received over 100 entries from 20 countries. An eminent jury has shortlisted 20 short films, six feature films, and four documentaries for screening, representing countries including India, Poland, Russia, Sri Lanka, the USA, France, Germany, Turkey, and Switzerland.
The three-day cinematic celebration will showcase films that bridge cultures and celebrate storytelling, reflecting Jammu and Kashmir’s artistic resurgence and growing prominence as a global platform for creative exchange.
The inaugural ceremony was attended by Festival Directors Rohit Bhat and Rakesh Roshan Bhat, Prof. Nazir Ahmad Ganai, Vice Chancellor SKUAST-Kashmir; Anshul Garg, Divisional Commissioner Kashmir; Rajiv Pandey, DIG CKR; Akshay Labroo, Deputy Commissioner Srinagar; and prominent artists, film personalities, and cinema enthusiasts from across the country.
