Jammu, Jan 11: The Crime Branch of Jammu and Kashmir Police has registered a case against a man for allegedly duping two persons by issuing fake appointment orders purportedly in the name of the Jammu and Kashmir High Court, a senior official said on Sunday.
Senior Superintendent of Police (Special Crime Wing), Jammu, Sanjay Parihar said the accused, identified as Mohd Tahir, a resident of Banola in Poonch district, has been booked for cheating and forgery.
He said the case was registered on Saturday following complaints from two individuals who alleged that they were defrauded after being provided with fake appointment orders in exchange for money.
According to the SSP, the accused came into contact with the first complainant during a train journey from Jammu to Roorkee and later developed friendly relations with him. Taking advantage of the acquaintance, the accused allegedly lured the complainant by assuring him of a job in the High Court.
“Based on this false assurance, the complainant paid Rs 2 lakh, after which the accused handed over an appointment order purportedly issued by the Jammu and Kashmir High Court,” Parihar said. However, when the complainant approached the High Court authorities to join, the appointment order was found to be fake.
In the second case, the accused, who was known to the complainant for a long time, initially took Rs 2 lakh on the pretext of arranging medical treatment for his wife, the officer said. He later assured the complainant that he could arrange a job for his son in the Jammu and Kashmir High Court and obtained his documents to defraud him.
Subsequent verification revealed that the appointment order was forged, the SSP said.
On receiving the complaints, the Crime Branch conducted a preliminary verification, which substantiated the allegations, leading to the registration of a formal case under the relevant provisions of the Bharatiya Nyaya Sanhita (BNS).
