Sanasar Tulip Garden Opens in Ramban, Set to Boost Tourism in Jammu Region

Ramban, Mar 25: After Asia’s largest tulip garden in Srinagar, the Jammu and Kashmir Government’s Department of Floriculture Parks and Gardens has thrown open another spectacular tulip garden featuring 25 varieties of multicolour blooms in full blossom at Sanasar tourist destination, marking a significant addition to the region’s tourism landscape.

Nestled amid scenic surroundings, the newly developed garden in Ramban district has quickly emerged as a major attraction for both tourists and locals, offering a vibrant display of over two lakh tulips spread across 35 kanals of land. A centrally located fountain further enhances the aesthetic appeal of the garden, making it a picturesque destination during the spring season.

The garden was inaugurated by Arjun Singh Raju, MLA Ramban in the presence of senior floriculture officials, including Vivek Modi, Vikrant Sharma and other officers, who later took a round of the facility to review its infrastructure and development.

Officials revealed that the project is the result of sustained efforts by the Floriculture Department, with officers working round the clock for more than six months to ensure timely completion. The initiative was undertaken with the aim of extending the tulip tourism experience beyond Srinagar and providing an additional attraction for pilgrims visiting Shri Mata Vaishno Devi Shrine and other tourist destinations in the Jammu region.

Providing technical details, Pawan Sanyal, AFO in-charge of the garden, said that approximately two lakh tulip bulbs were planted in October before the onset of snowfall after thorough land preparation. He explained that the bulbs remained dormant under snow cover during winter and began germinating as temperatures rose with the melting snow, eventually reaching full bloom and creating a mesmerising visual spectacle.

Speaking on the occasion, Vivek Modi said, “Our team worked hard for many months and now the time has come when people can enjoy this beauty. I would like to invite people from all over the world and the Jammu region to visit Sanasar and witness this magnificent tulip garden.”

MLA Raju highlighted that the garden is expected to significantly boost tourist footfall in the region. He noted that since the establishment of the tulip garden, Sanasar has witnessed a steady increase in visitors, and the trend is likely to continue this year as well.

He further emphasised that such tourism-driven initiatives will not only promote lesser-known destinations but also contribute to the local economy by generating employment opportunities and supporting small businesses.

Soon after the inauguration, enthusiastic tourists rushed into the garden to witness the vibrant colours and diverse varieties of tulips in full bloom. The atmosphere turned festive as visitors explored the garden, capturing photographs and enjoying the scenic beauty.

Officials said the development of the Sanasar tulip garden is part of a broader strategy to diversify tourism in Jammu and Kashmir and reduce pressure on traditional hotspots by promoting new destinations.

With the spring season gaining momentum, authorities expect a further surge in tourist arrivals in the coming days, positioning Sanasar as a key floral destination in the Union Territory and strengthening its appeal as an emerging hub of eco-tourism.
