Farooq Abdullah Welcomes Prime Accused in JKPSI Recruitment Scam into National Conference

Srinagar, Jan 8: Dr. Karnail Singh, former Commandant of the Border Security Force (BSF) and the prime accused in the Jammu and Kashmir Police Sub-Inspector (JKPSI) recruitment scam, has recently joined the National Conference (NC), a move that has stirred controversy. Singh was welcomed into the party by NC president Dr. Farooq Abdullah.

During the joining ceremony, Dr. Abdullah hailed the NC as a “mass movement” committed to the progress of Jammu, Kashmir, and Ladakh. He expressed confidence that Singh’s induction would help strengthen the party at the grassroots level and contribute to the region’s peace, progress, and development.

“Dr. Karnail Singh’s joining will further bolster the National Conference. A strong NC is essential for the region’s future,” Abdullah remarked.

Singh, who is currently out on bail, pledged to work toward the party’s vision of a peaceful and progressive Jammu and Kashmir. Along with Singh, other new entrants, including Madan Lal, Kamlesh, and several supporters, joined the NC during the event. The ceremony was attended by senior NC leaders, including Dr. Sheikh Mustafa Kamaal, Provincial President Jammu Rattan Lal Gupta, and Israr Khan.

Dr. Singh’s controversial move into politics comes against the backdrop of his involvement in the JKPSI recruitment scam. Accused of leaking exam papers for police sub-inspectors, junior engineers, and finance account assistants, Singh was arrested by the Central Bureau of Investigation (CBI) in October 2022. Dubbed the “kingpin” of the scam, Singh’s actions led to the cancellation of recruitment lists, causing significant distress to thousands of candidates.

After months in custody, Singh was granted bail. He is one of 24 individuals charge-sheeted in the case, which has generated public outrage over its impact on aspiring candidates and the integrity of recruitment processes in Jammu and Kashmir.

The NC’s decision to welcome a figure at the center of such a high-profile scandal has prompted criticism from political opponents and observers, who are questioning the party’s stance on transparency, accountability, and integrity.
